For years, the Lich King ruled from the icy peaks of Northrend, sending his Death Knights to conquer and corrupt. His power was absolute until the Alliance and Horde united to challenge him in a final assault on Icecrown Citadel. Though he fought valiantly, wielding both magic and blade, he was eventually defeated by a combined force of adventurers. During the battle, Tirion Fordring shattered Frostmourne with the Ashbringer, and Arthas's soul faded after his defeat. Bolvar Fordragon then took up the Helm of Domination and became the new Lich King to contain the Scourge. The original Lich King, Arthas, is dead, and while the Scourge remains under Bolvar's control, Death Knights are no longer raised in the same manner as before.
