This desperation led him to accept Frostmourne, a runeblade that demanded his soul as payment. The blade slowly eroded his humanity, turning him into a Death Knight who slaughtered his own family and kingdom to serve the Scourge. Eventually, Arthas ascended to the Frozen Throne in Northrend, merging with the spirit of Ner'zhul to become the Lich King. He ruled over the undead armies for years until he was finally challenged by Tirion Fordring wielding Ashbringer. His defeat marked the end of his reign, though his legacy as a cautionary tale against unchecked power remains etched into the history of the world.
