After the events of Warcraft II, Thrall led his people—orcs already on Azeroth—to establish a new homeland. Through diplomacy and sheer force of will, he negotiated the creation of Durotar, a new homeland for the orcs. He eventually stepped down from the role of Warchief to focus on his duties as a shaman within the Earthen Ring, leaving the political leadership to others while continuing to guard the balance between the physical world and the spirit realm.

His tenure as Warchief spans the early years of the game's history, overseeing the alliance with other races against threats like the Scourge and the Burning Legion. The narrative takes a turn when he steps down to join the Earthen Ring, signaling a shift in leadership that allows new characters to rise while Thrall focuses on spiritual restoration.
